Opening Minds Art Show

A community celebration of living mentally well.

Opening Minds is a community art show in celebration of living mentally well.

Join us at Studios on the Park in Paso Robles! Our Opening Ceremony will kick off a month-long celebration on May 5th.

Unique to the San Luis Obispo County area, the Opening Minds art show was first developed in 1995 to offer people experiencing mental illness a way to express themselves and to provide a venue to share art, feelings and thoughts with the general public. The show has since expanded to include the entire mental health community: those in recovery, their family and friends, service providers and more. TMHA's goal remains the same today: to help the community see that people should not be defined in terms of their illness but by their strengths, gifts and by the contributions they make to society. Join us for this inspiring opportunity to shed light on mental health through artistic expression.

We invite you to participate in the 2018 show now!

We invite people of all ages to submit art inspired by mental health challenges for consideration in our May 2018 Opening Minds Community Art Show at Studios on the Park in Paso Robles, CA.

This exhibition is an opportunity for those whose lives have been impacted by mental illness to express themselves through the artistic medium. Artists are invited to share their personal mental health connection and story through their art.

All mediums of artistic expression are encouraged. We wish to give voices to those affected by mental illness whether it be personal, family, or loved ones. We ask artists to share reflections on their experience with mental illness and ways of expressing recovery and hope.

This is a juried submission process.

Submissions are accepted from February 12 through March 23, 2018, 5pm.

Please contact the art coordinator, Meghan Madsen at (805) 503-0350 or by email at for further information.

For 68 years, Mental Health America has led the observance of May is Mental Health Month by reaching millions of people through the media, local events and screenings. TMHA supports this effort locally by hosting Opening Minds during this time.
