Transitions – Mental Health Association

Welcome to Transitions – Mental Health Association!

Transitions–Mental Health Association (TMHA) is a private, nonprofit agency dedicated to helping children and adults live, work and grow in the communities within San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.

Our Goal

TMHA designs, develops and operates highly effective programs and services that give opportunities to at-risk youth and disabled adults and seniors. We strive to help our clients be defined by their strengths, gifts and contributions to society, not by their illnesses or difficulties. We have been part of the community since 1954.

Growing Plants and Self-esteem

In Santa Barbara County, TMHA is seeking ways to continue providing services through Growing Grounds Farm in Santa Maria, the Gatehouse and Lompoc Drop-in Programs. Read about it here in the Santa Maria Times. Growing Grounds Farm and Nursery in San Luis Obispo was also recently featured in the San Luis Obispo Tribune. See the gorgeous photos and read all about how the Farm offers people in mental health recovery a place to work and grow. More than 100,000 plants from both Farms – natives, herbs and vegetable starts for the garden – are sold each year, many at Growing Grounds Downtown, in SLO.

2008 Opening Minds Art Show

The 2008 Opening Minds Art Show held at the San Luis Obispo Art Center was a great success! Read about it in the Santa Maria Times article, “ New exhibit ‘Opening Minds' to mental health” and in The San Luis Obispo Tribune article, “Bravery on display.” Click here to hear artists’ stories, learn more about the show and get your 2008 OM t-shirt while supplies last!
